Letter From the Head of School (15th Mar)

Letter from the Head of School - Mrs Kayleigh Oliver

Prynhawn Da!

It is that time of the week again where I share some of the excellent work of our brilliant pupils at Pontypridd High School.

I would like to start by congratulating the Year 8 Basketball team who represented the school in the JrNBA competition in Cardiff Met. All pupils were excellent throughout the day and enjoyed the experience. A special mention to Gethin Matthews who received Ponty High’s MVP Award.

Mr Ivins & Mr Longden have asked me to remind all Year 11 pupils of afterschool revision sessions. Tuesday afterschool is Maths revision, Wednesday is English revision and Thursday is Science. All pupils are welcome and I would strongly advise students to take this opportunity as exam season is fast approaching.

Mrs Barrett has asked me to mention Year 7 who have been creating their own chocolate bars in Expressive Arts. For their assessment pupils needed to pitch their idea to the teacher in the style of Dragons Den. The pupils needed to write a pitch describing the chocolate, cost and pricing. Staff have seen some exceptional pitches but only one group from each class could win. The winning pupils all received an easter egg to enjoy. Congratulations to the winners;

7P - Jaydan & Emilie, 7O - Zadok, Mason & Leon, 7N - Danny, Travis, Charlie & Rowan, 7T - Logan & Cody and 7Y - Frankie, Adrian & Dillun.

Mrs Stockman has asked me to mention Jordan Thomas in Year 10 who has been fantastic within his Science lessons. Jordan has worked excellently during practical’s, has an improved attitude to learning in lessons and has answered questions enthusiastically. Well done Jordan.

Today is ‘Red Nose Day’ and as such I would thank a group of our pupils who have taken part in a bake sale, plus organising a raffle. All proceeds will go to this charity. Thank you to everyone involved.

As we approach out final week of this term I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents & carers for their support over this term. I would also like to remind all pupils, parents & carers of the expectations on mobile phones and school uniform. As everyone is fully aware the school is a no phone zone, please can all pupils be reminded of this. The school uniform is also a key aspect of our schools positive relationships policy. Hooded tops are not part of the school uniform as respectfully ask that they are not worn in school. If pupils do wear these too and from school, we ask they are put away in bags during the school day. Staff will be completing regular uniform checks for the remainder of the school year.

Many thanks as always for your continued support,

Mrs Kayleigh Oliver
