Letter from the Head of Scho0l (Feb 2nd)

Letter from the Head of School - Mrs Kayleigh Oliver

I hope everyone is well and had a great January. As always, it has been a busy few weeks here at school. I am very proud to be informing you that our school debate team attended a competition on Monday in Ysgol Rhydywaun. The team got through to the final but narrowly missed out on a place in Oxford by only 2 marks. The team which included, Kara Lock, Kiera Lock, Sienna Williams, Jack Donaldson & Kesav Sujeebun, performed excellently and received a huge amount of praise from other schools involved. Mrs Enos and the English faculty would like to congratulate all the Year 11 pupils who have successfully completed their individual speaking and listening exams over the last two weeks. Staff are very proud of the hard work that the pupils have put in.

In preparation for the upcoming summer exams, Mrs Finney has been running morning and after-school revision sessions which are proving exceptionally productive. Mr Jones would like to mention, Years 7 & 8 and Years 9 & 10 performed excellently in the County Basketball Finals last week. The Year 9 & 10 team won the competition and have now qualified for the Regional Finals in Cardiff University. Well done everyone!

We have been very lucky this week to have had visitors from the Royal Navy who gave a group of our pupils a presentation on their own experiences  and their job roles as chefs on Navy Ships. After each session, the pupils made their own dishes and these were entered into an in-house competition:

Best tasting burger & chips was awarded to: Leo-James Beacham, Ifan Llewellyn, Ethan Mahoney, Oliver Mees-Pritchard, Sylar Walker and Jacob Smith. Best tasting brownie was awarded to: Hannah Lewis, Faith Mitchell and Kate Morse, and the best presentation for their brownies was awarded too Kasmin Legge, Olivia Dunn, Kacey Jeffrey, Lacie-Mae Talbot and Abbie Gough.

As always, there is the importance of school attendance. It has been hugely positive to see more pupils achieve 100% attendance since returning in January and this is something we wish to continue. If you need any support with whole school attendance please contact Miss Catherine Lee.

Next week is our final week of the half-term. I look forward to the excellent work continuing across the school.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Kayleigh Oliver
