Letter from the Head of School (11th Dec)

Letter from the Head of School - Mrs Kayleigh Oliver

Prynhawn Da!

This week has most certainly got us in the Christmas spirit here in Ponty High. I am proud to say we have donated over 30 gifts today from staff in school for the RCT Santa Appeal. We also held our first Christmas clothing/toy drive last night, which was a huge success and something we will look to continue in years to come. As a school we have also started out ‘Reverse Advent’ campaign, the aim is to donate as much as possible to our local Trussel Foodbank. We are welcoming donations from the whole school community, items which we know are needed urgently are: Soup, Rice Pudding, Custard, UHT Juice & Squash, Tinned Vegetables, Pasta and toiletries.

Last Thursday we celebrated our annual carol service at St Catherine’s church in Pontypridd. It was a fantastic event and a pleasure to watch such talented pupils perform. Please can I pass on my thanks to Mrs Barrett and Mr James who have worked hard to put on the event and ensure all pupils were prepared and confident in their performances.

This week we started our Christmas attendance competition; ‘Countdown to Christmas’, I am incredibly pleased to say that so far, we have 517 pupils across the school who have had 100% attendance since the start of the competition and who are all in the running to win a £50 amazon voucher (one per year group). Other prizes we have on offer are family theatre tickets, selection boxes, a family hamper and shopping vouchers. We have also had some outstanding pupils achieve positive points this week, George Morgan in Year 8 has received 37 positive points, Caidyn Williams in Year 7 has received 35 positive points, Leoni Marshall in Year 10 has received 33 positive points, Nathan Osazuwa-Imade in Year 11 has achieved 31 positive points and Kiera Lock in Year 9 has received 27 positive points. Mrs Thomas, Welsh, has asked me to mention Caiden Pugh in teaching class 8K who has made a tremendous effort in Welsh this week and achieved pupil of the lesson twice.

Next week we have more events throughout school, more trips taking place and our attendance competition continues.

As always thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Kayleigh Oliver- Head of School
