Letter from the Head of School (13th Oct)

Letter from the Head of School - Mrs Kayleigh Oliver

Prynhawn Da!

It is that time of the week again where I share with you some of the excellent work that has been taking place across our school. Can I pass on my congratulations to Alfie Gwynne in Year 9 who has received 43 positive points this week, Alfie Hopkins Year 7 on 29 points, Elina Powell in Year 8 with 29 points, Manu Gopi in Year 11 with 26 points and Kalman Humphreys in Year 10 with 25 positive points. I would personally like to mention George Coombs in Year 11 regarding his mature attitude to learning and helping staff throughout this week.

Miss Fleming in Health and Well-being has asked for a special mention to her Year 9 GCSE PE class who have worked very hard this week on theory lessons, Mr Van-Baaren has asked me to mention the excellent progress that pupils in Year 9 and 10 are making in Product Design. Accurately following dimension drawings to make Halloween themed product and using their CAD/CAM skills to design and make the halloween icons. Mrs Stockman, Head of Science has made a personal mention for Kacey Freeman who has worked brilliantly throughout Science this week, Ms Jones (Spanish) is very pleased and impressed with the enthusiasm and considerable effort that Adrian Pietzak, Liam Richards  and Riley Owens in 7T have shown in Spanish. Mrs Rosser would like to mention Jack Davies, Year 11 for his improved effort and attitude in his studies this week. Miss Bartlett has asked to celebrate the work of Brooke Grba and Boyd Biggs for giving 100% effort in all of their work and a positive attitude to learning. Da Iawn!

This week, school council members met with Allyn Jones, Communication and Rights Officer for the Youth Engagement & Participation Service (YEPS). They took part in a session to support them in understanding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child (UNCRC), why it is in place, how young people can access their rights and how they can affect change should their rights not be upheld.  Next week the school council will be sharing what they learnt by delivering the whole school assemblies.

This week we have celebrated ‘Shwmae week’ which has been fantastic. Please can I use this platform to pass on my personal thanks to Mrs Gabby Mills, Mrs Diane Thomas and Ms Eirlys Jones for all the hard work that has gone into our week. Throughout the week pupils have been using the Welsh language across the whole school, have utilised Welsh within their lessons and one group of pupils visited the Principality Stadium. This afternoon we will host a special event in the main hall to bring all our celebrations to a close.

As mentioned last week, we strongly value our relationships with parents, carers and the local community. It is vital that we work together for all pupils to achieve and be happy when in school. You will have received a separate message which includes our home school agreement. This can also be found on our school website. Please can I ask that all parents/carers read through the agreement and then complete the form here: Microsoft Forms

Finally, can I take this opportunity to remind all parents, carers and pupils of the importance of correct school uniform and high school attendance. Details of our school uniform policy can be found on our school website. I must remind all parents/carers that hooded tops are not permitted as part of our policy. I would ask for your support on this matter. It goes without saying, attendance at school is crucial to pupil success. We need to work together to ensure we get our pupils into school, where they will experience the highest quality learning experiences.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support and another great week here at Pontypridd High School.
