Letter from the Head of School (Sept 29th)

Letter from the Head of School - Mrs Kayleigh Oliver

Prynhawn Da!

It is that time of the week again where I share with you some of the excellent work that has been taking place across our school. This week we have seen a huge amount of positive work across the school, with 6562 positive points being awarded to pupils across Years 7-11. A particular mention to Joshua Williams in Year 11 with 36 positive points, Tommy-Lee Prosser in Year 7 with 27, Callie Davies in Year 8 with 25, Zak Blacker in Year 10 on 22 and Lamprini Danou in Year 9 with 16. Da Iawn, keep up the good work.

Specific teachers are given the opportunity every week to highlight specific pupils or classes who they have feel have worked exceptionally well. This week Mrs Stockman has asked me to mention Riley Mates in Year 10 who has been outstanding in Science and achieved an A1 in a recent assessment, Miss Bartlett wants to mention the hard work and skillset of Brooke Grba, Mrs Finney has asked me to mention the whole 7W Maths class for their excellent work on numeracy but a particular mention to Delcie Kerslake and Ethan Phillips where were awarded pupils of the lesson, Miss Serpell is very pleased with 10S this week and a special mention to Poppie Rowe Smith who demonstrated her methodology to the whole class. Finally, Miss Davies has passed on her congratulations to 7W for their excellent Science work and particularly Tommy-Lee Prosser for outstanding work on tally charts and bar graphs and the work of Year 11 pupils Manu Gobi and Ethan Richards who both achieved A* in their Science assessments. Well done all, it is amazing to see so much good work taking place.

This week we have also seen over 70 pupils take part in sporting fixtures and 75 pupils rehearsing for our school production ‘Matilda’. These extra curricular opportunities are incredibly important in our school and I would encourage all pupils to try and take part in something across the school week.

Can I also take this time to mention and celebrate that today is National Teaching Assistant Day, we are so fortunate her at Pontypridd High that we have outstanding support staff and can I use this platform to thank them for their continuous hard work and dedication to our school.

Next week our Year 10 pupils will attend a careers trip with Mrs Morgan-Jenkins and start looking to their steps beyond Ponty High. We will also host the first Year 6 Open Evening for Ysgol Bro Taf on Wednesday 4th October 2023. The evening will be an opportunity to meet with some staff from senior leadership and also visit some of the amazing new facilities that Ysgol Bro Taf will have on offer. If you haven’t yet registered for a pupil in Year 6 please go to our school website or social media pages to find the link.

Throughout next week our Year 11 pupils will be sitting their English Language group discussion exams, please can I take this opportunity to wish you all good luck. I know how hard you have been working and look forward to seeing you achieve the results you deserve. Please ensure you arrive promptly for your exam, attendance is essential.

As part of our ongoing work to promote the Welsh Language throughout our school community, every week we will be having a ‘Welsh word of the week’. This word will be used throughout the week and it would be fantastic if this could be replicated at home. The word for next week is ‘Bore Da’.

As a school we strongly value our relationships with parents, carers and the local community. It is vital that we work together for all pupils to achieve and be happy when in school. You will have received a separate message which includes our home school agreement, this can also be found on our school website.

Please can I ask that all parents/carers read through the agreement and then complete the form here: Microsoft Forms

Another fantastic week at Pontypridd High School- well done to all involved.
