I would like to congratulate each of our students who have all achieved success in their A/S and A2 Level examinations. At A2 we have maintained the high standards of previous years and I am delighted that 31% of all grades achieved were at A* or A. This is well above Welsh standards.
Our Welsh Baccalaureate results are also very pleasing with every student entered gaining the Core Certificate and over 80% achieving the full Advanced Diploma.
Particular mention must be given to William Watkins who achieved an unprecedented 6 A Level passes. This included 5 A grades, two of which were at the new and very demanding A* level. Nia James, Rhys Hopkins, Briar Cunliffe, Hollie Owen and Leigha Shine-Roberts also achieved excellent results.
At A/S level there were highly creditable and encouraging results for Claire Allen, Alice Davies, Rebecca Picton, Stephan Renmant, Bruno Sussat and Caitlin Thomas. Overall standards at this level have improved considerably and this is very encouraging for the final A level results next year.
The success we have achieved as a School reflects the hard work and commitment from all students and staff. We thank those students who are leaving us for their contribution to our School and wish them well as they move on to new challenges beyond Pontypridd High.

The 5th of July was a very exciting day for our soon to be year 7 pupils. Over 130 pupils from our feeder primaries joined us to experience an Outdoor Adventurous Activities Day! The pupils rotated around 4 activities which were led by our recently qualified Sports Leaders. These activities included, cooking on a trangia (mm hot chocolate!), orienteering, problem solving and tent building. All the children had a great day out; well it was a day off school! While orienteering they were able to explore their new school and learn where things are around the outside of the building. I’m sure this is another way to help them feel more confident in September.

I am delighted that our Year 11 pupils have achieved the best ever results for our School. All pupils who sat examinations at the School have gained qualifications and our 53% A* to C reflects a fantastic effort from pupils and staff.
We have high expectations for our pupils and it is a great credit that they have all responded so positively. Our congratulations to everyone and in particular to Elizabeth Watkins who gained 10 A grades and to Nathan Payne, Hannah Thomas, Katie Gupwell, Samantha Herman and Taryn Frowen for achieving 7 or more A grades. Credit must also be given to Eve Davies, Rhys Pugh, Sarah Cull and Lucy Horton for their excellent results. Particularly pleasing is the fact that our achievement of A* and A grades continues to increase, recognising the high calibre of pupils at Pontypridd High School.
We look forward to welcoming back everyone to our Sixth Form in September. Thank you to those pupils who are leaving to take up a place in College or start a new job. Our best wishes for a successful future beyond Pontypridd High.
Following such similar success in our A Level results this is hugely encouraging for the new school year ahead. Well done everyone ! |

Startright! Pontypridd High School’s Year 12 Young Enterprise team competed in the Innovation Awards 2010 Company Programme at Cardiff City Hall in June. This was a very prestigious event sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government and Energy Solutions attended by the Minister for Children, Education and Lifelong Learning and officially opened by Sara Edwards from the BBC. The team did outstandingly well by winning an award for Innovation and Enterprise. Bruno Sussat received the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Young Enterprise Programme; an incredible achievement for both. Comments were made about how professionally the team conducted themselves throughout the day, a real credit to the school!
