The RISE programme aims to enrich every part of a pupil’s school life. By being part of the programme, pupils are encouraged to investigate the world around them and by the end of their time with us they will become independent, inquisitive and motivated learners.
RISE, which stands for, Reach Inspire Shine and Enrich is split into three programmes throughout KS3 and KS4:
Year 7 – This is me
In Year 7 we want the pupils to feel comfortable in their new surroundings as well as helping them become independent, confident learners. Pupils are asked to look at the world around them and investigate what makes them unique. We look at Family Trees, local History, issues close to home and far away and how we can take ownership of our learning.
Year 8 and 9 – Mission impossible
In Years 8 and 9 we challenge the pupils to use their new independent skills in every day learning. Secret missions are given out for pupils to complete in lessons. The aim of these two years is to encourage the pupils to take responsibility for their own learning as well as challenging themselves beyond the classroom.
Year 10 and 11 – Launch
In Years 10 and 11 we start thinking about the future and life beyond Pontypridd High School. A big emphasis is focused on wellbeing and mindfulness to ensure the two years go by stress free. Pupils have their own study to work in and are invited to morning mentoring drop in sessions. Support and opportunities to enhance CVs is available and we work closely together to ensure that pupils make the best Post-16 options available.
