Sporting Stars, February-March '16

It’s been a really busy past few months in the P.E. department at Pontypridd High School. So many of our sports teams and students competing at all levels from regional to international.

Rush Hockey - There was a great transition day of rush hockey organised by our fantastic three young sports ambassadors, Chloe Jordan, Leah Marie Jarvis and Courtney Roberts. Seven different primary schools attended with all the pupils enjoying their experience at Pontypridd High School.

Gymnastics - Well done to all the students who competed in the gymnastics competition at Abercynon Sports Centre. Congratulations to Lewis Ferguson, year 8 who won the boys gym competition out of 130 pupils. A big thank you to Lauren Edwards for organizing the team and taking the pupils.

Sky Sports Ambassador - We have our very own Sky sports ambassador, Beth Fisher who plays for the Welsh hockey team. Beth has been working with dierent groups of pupils who have all really enjoyed the experience.

Basketball - Well done to a combined Year 7 & 8 team who beat Porth 12–2. The team was Josh Benjamin, Harry Jones, Owen Richards, Jacob Marshall and Dan Williams.

Squash - Well done to Ciara Richards in Year 11 who represented Wales in the German Junior Open at the beginning of this month. Ciara has also been selected to play for Wales in a test match vs Scotland in Edinburgh.

Rugby - Our Year 10 rugby team played in the Ponty Schools Rugby 7’s competition at Hawthorn. It was a very enjoyable day with lots of very good handing skills on show and fast running rugby. The boys did well winning 2 games drawing 1 and losing 2. They finished 4th out of the seven schools in the
district. We are now training for the National URDD Rugby 7’s.

Football - Well done to the Year 10 football team who have won their last two games against Tonypandy 7–0 and Llanhari 4–1. They are now in the semi–final of the RCT cup where they will play Porth after the Easter break.
