America!

Head Boy and Head Girl's visit to America

Two of our year 12 students were fortunate enough to be selected onto the Sutton Trust US Programme last year. This was more than just a holiday to America, as over the past few months they have been sitting ACT tests and have been gaining an insight in to the American university application process. This then culminated in a week long residential in July.  Billie Mai Cox went to Philadelphia, and Liam Hooper visited Massachusetts.  Liam is now applying for part 2 of the programme and will be applying to an American institute this year.

The application process for the 2020 programme starts again soon so if you are in year 12 and are interested then please speak to Miss Stickler for more information.

Billie-Mai Cox (Head Girl)

This summer, I was lucky enough to travel on an all-expenses paid trip to Philadelphia in America, as part of the Sutton Trust US Programme. The aim of the trip was for us to experience the American culture and find out if studying in the US is right for us. We took part in a range of both academic and cultural activities over the week, such as attending a major league baseball game, visiting the One Liberty Observation Deck, and touring top universities such as Princeton, Harvard, and Bryn Mawr. The experience was one that I will never forget, and one which has really opened my eyes to the different opportunities available for undergraduate study.

Liam Hooper (Head Boy)

During my Sutton Trust US programme week I visited Boston, Massachusetts. During the week we visited a variety of universities in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Some of the universities were Urban, Sub-Urban and College Towns. We visited universities such as Dartmouth, Brandeis and Amherst. The week really opened my eyes to the opportunity of studying in the US has a result of seeing the universities first hand. During the week we didn't just visit universities but we also visited some of Boston most famous landmarks. We walked around Boston one evening on the Boston Freedom Trial and visited Quincy market. My favourite part of the trip was watching Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees at Fenway Park.
