Canadian Tour Report

On the weekend of the 14th march, students from Pontypridd high school hosted the Hugh McRoberts Canadian touring side. They were over here for three days before travelling to Ireland on the Tuesday. The students provided entertainment all over the weekend building up to the game on the Monday. The game itself was a very exciting game of rugby with a lot of pressure on the Pontypridd boys knowing that the school had never lost to the Canadians before. Both teams saw it as such a great honour to be playing on the Cardiff blues grounds.

The first half saw the first try coming from the Canadians with the conversion unsuccessful putting them ahead 5 points, this put a bit of a scare in the Pontypridd boys as they weren’t adamant not to lose and fought on, and in the dying minutes of the first half a try was scored as the boys pushed their way forward inch by inch andthe ball over the line bringing the first half to a close. With the confidence of the try in the first half the boys were underway again for another 30 minutes. The second half saw three more tries from Pontypridd high and all converted except one by Joe cook, whose kicking accuracy was 75% for the whole match. The final score was 26-5 with Ponty holding the unbeaten streak and a great effort put in by both teams. Shortly after the match a short presentation was held and gifts were given out, to each school and also man of the match of both teams which was awarded to Adam Ashford. Tuesday saw the Canadians leaving for Ireland and then shortly after they travel to England and we wish them the best of luck on the rest of their tour and maybe a few wins. Thank you to Merlin Sports for donating the kit that Pontypridd high played in.
