UKMT Maths Intermediate Challenge

In May this year, 12 Year 7 and 8 pupils took part in the UKMT Intermediate Challenge. The Challenge is aimed at pupils in Years 7 and 8 in England and Wales who excel at mathematical problem-solving. The challenge involved answering 25 multiple choice questions in an hour and was sat in school under normal exam conditions. The pupils filled in the answer sheet and the challenge was then marked by UKMT. The top 40% of pupils nationally receive either a gold, silver or bronze certificate and each school receives a 'Best in School' certificate.

When the results returned to school the Mathematics Department were thrilled! In Year 8, Tom Penikett was awarded a Bronze certificate. Trudy Pounder was awarded a Bronze certificate and the best in year 8 certificate. In Year 7 Anna Jones was awarded a Bronze certificate. Keynaan Edwards was awarded a Silver certificate. Keynaan Edwards score was also only six marks away from the Gold certificate and this resulted in him achieving the best in year 7 and Best in School Awards.

These results are an outstanding achievement which reflects the Year 7 and 8 pupils’ commitment and positive attitude towards mathematics this year.

Well done!
