Young Wales joins forces with Pontypridd High School to develop a Construction Centre of Excellence. This new facility will be based at Grow Enterprise Wales, Unit F, Gellihirion Industrial Estate, Upper Boat, Pontypridd, CF37 5SX.

Young Wales will become the main satellite construction centre along with our current Ty-Gwyn Education Satellite Centre which is linked to our Pontypridd High School main Construction Centre.

Our aim is to deliver various construction qualifications, short courses and taster days to all schools and PRU centres in R.C.T. It will be an exciting and rewarding opportunity for all young people to gain a recognised qualification in construction skills, both trade specific and project management.

This new provision will provide our young students with the skills required for our building elite of the future. This unique vocational opportunity will build on the ongoing success of the current construction department at Pontypridd High School; we will be in a position to offer to all schools who wish to access this provision from September 2014. Steve Jones Head of Construction at Pontypridd High School who will manage this new facility said, “This is a very exciting time to be able to offer construction courses on such a large scale to anyone who would like the opportunity to pursue a career in a skilled based profession.”

Over the past six years the industry has suffered due to the recession.  The outcome from this is that we lack a workforce of skilled professionals to continue with the infrastructure that is needed.

Students will be able to make a difference and play a major role in the construction workforce that is moving back to the top. They will be part of the industry that shapes our world.
