UK Mathematics Trust Junior Challenge

On May 1st this year ten Year 8 pupils took part in the UKMT Junior Challenge.

On May 1st this year ten Year 8 pupils took part in the UKMT Junior Challenge. The Challenge was aimed at pupils in Year 8 or below in England and Wales who excel at mathematical problem solving. It involved answering 25 multiple choice questions in one hour and was sat in school under normal exam conditions. The pupils filled in the answer sheet and the challenge was then marked by UKMT. The top 40% of pupils nationally receive either a gold, silver or bronze certificate and each school receives a ‘Best in School’ certificate. The pupils who took part in the challenge were: Daniel Tollen, Cael Griffiths, Seren Thompson, Caitlyn Baker, Morgan Jones, Lucy Hughes, Dylan Richards, India Lloyd Evans, Alice Newman and Jessica Barnes.

When the results returned to the school the Pontypridd High School mathematics department was thrilled with the pupil’s scores. Seren Thompson, Daniel Tollen and Caitlyn Baker were awarded a Bronze certificate and Morgan Jones and Cael Griffiths achieved a Silver certificate. Cael Griffiths was also awarded the certificate for the best results in the school.

These results are an outstanding achievement which reflects the Year 8 pupils’ commitment and positive attitude towards mathematics this year.

Well done!
