School Categorisation

School Categorisation

Under the school categorisation scheme used by the Welsh Government we have been confirmed as a ‘Yellow’ school. Close examination of all the data shows that our total overall standards score places Pontypridd High comfortably in Standards Group 1 which means we are in the group of Welsh schools that performs most strongly against the agreed measures.

The relative progress we have made in each of the main examination performance indicators is as follows;

- Level 2 Threshold including English and Maths is in the GREEN category

- Capped points score including English and maths is in the GREEN category

- 5 A* to A grades achieved is in the GREEN category

When compared to similar schools in Wales we are in the top 25% of schools when these indicators are used.

Different weightings applied to the formula used by the Welsh Government to take account of different groups of pupils mean that our final category was judged to be just short of Green.

In addition it was also very pleasing to see that our A Level results for 2016 clearly show that we are performing better than the averages for Rhondda Cynon Taff and Welsh schools using the following indicators - Average points score and Level 3 threshold.

All of these outcomes are very encouraging and a reflection of the time, commitment and support from many people, not to mention the talented young people who are achieving these ever improving results. It is clear that the improvements in GCSE grades are being repeated at A Level reflecting the positive attitude of our students and the trust they have in our staff to meet and exceed the challenges we face together.

As always we appreciate your support and together we look for further success in 2017.
