John Tree Music Competition

The prestigious John Tree music competition, administered by Cor Meibion Pontypridd, was held on Thursday. 4th April 2019 at Hawthorn High School.

The award, established in 1991 by John Tree, MBE, Deputy Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan, is for emerging young singers and instrumentalists in Pontypridd secondary schools.

Pontypridd High School pupil, Bree Evans (y11) was a finalist and runner up in the competition. and she will receive a cash prize.  She sang two pieces, 'Die Lotosblume' by Schumann and 'I'm Not That Girl' from the musical Wicked. The adjudicators commented on her tone and musical phrasing. Following her performance, Bree has been invited to sing with Pontypridd Male Choir later in the year.  Bree is a talented singer who regularly performs in school productions and concerts. She has recently auditioned for The Voice  -fingers crossed!  Bree hopes to study Musical Theatre  at Bridgend College in September. I am sure you will agree that she has a wonderful future ahead of her. Well done!
