Changes to School Transport

Changes to School Transport provision

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As you are aware, Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council has proposed the following changes to Home to School Transport:

Pupils living between 2 and 3 miles away from their nearest secondary school would pay for transport:

A charge of £1.75 per day per pupil.

Pupils eligible for free school meals will only receive a limited discount and will be charged £1.00 per day.

Pupils living more than 3 miles away from their nearest secondary school will still be eligible for free transport.

The new policy would be implemented from September 2016 and would directly affect pupils living in Graigwen, Pantygraigwen, Pwllgwaun and Maesycoed but will indirectly affect all our pupils.

The Council held a meeting to discuss the proposed changes at the School. Thank you to the parents who attended. If you were unable to attend and would still like to oppose the changes, you can do so by the following ways:

 Email:                    HTSconsultation@rctcbc.gov.uk

Telephone:         01443 425 014

Post:                      FREEPOST RSBU-HJUK-LSSS, Research & Consultation, The Pavilions,

   Clydach Vale, CF40 2XX.

You will find a letter attached which you can use as a template to oppose these changes. Letters should be sent to the address above. Alternatively, please follow this link www.rctcbc.gov.uk/budgetchallenge and complete an online questionnaire.

This is an opportunity to voice your concerns directly to RCT CBC. These proposals currently only affect those living between two and three miles from school. However, if successful they will have a long and lasting impact on the nature of this school. Every parent has a right to have their concerns answered.

The consultation period for these changes will end on 28th July 2015

 Yours faithfully,

Huw Cripps
