John Tree Music Competition

The prestigious John Tree music competition, administered by Cor Meibion Pontypridd, was held on Wednesday, 27th March 2018 at Cardinal Newman Roman Catholic School.

The award, established in 1991 by John Tree, MBE, Deputy Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan, is for emerging young singers and instrumentalists in Pontypridd secondary schools.

Year 13 pupil, Samantha Rutter was a finalist and runner up in the competition.  She performed two items - 'Lascia Ch'io Pianga' from Rinaldo by Handel and 'I Don't Know How To Love Him' from Jesus Christ Super Star by Andrew Lloyd Webber, accompanied by Mrs Rhian Evan-Jones.  The adjudicators commented on her beautiful voice and musical phrasing.  Samantha is a talented singer who is also an accomplished dancer and actress.  She intends to study Musical Theatre  and Performing Arts at university.  Llongyfarchiadau Mawr !
