Four Pontypridd High students had the privilege to visit Bridgend Law Courts; they were given a full tour and even allowed to sit in on some cases. We left early Thursday morning and arrived at about half past ten, despite Miss Stickler’s misleading satnav. When we arrived we had to go through a series of security checks, and were led into a youth court where we were shown the ropes by magistrate and justice of the peace Barry Stevens. We were shown some simulated cases and asked to deliver our own verdicts, this was essential in understanding the process and the procedures involved with a court case. After sitting in on some quite harrowing cases the pupils realised how hard it is to deliver a fair and appropriate sentence. After a short period of being locked in a cell the pupils concluded that a life of crime truly does not pay.
