Five Year 9 pupils Ben Gooding, Dewi Jones, Daniel Shoemark, Iona Davies and Katie Thomas attended Glamorgan University last weekend to extend their knowledge in Mathematics. The University are offering these five pupils a KS3 Mathematics Master Class for 8 weeks every Saturday morning with the aim to introduce young people to topics they do not normally meet in the classroom. The work does not depend heavily on previous knowledge learnt in school but it is intellectually demanding and the classes therefore require a considerable commitment by all pupils.
The Master Classes are held by a host of University lecturers from across the country and the pupils will study a variety of mathematics such as: The Mathematics of Juggling, The Maths of Google and the I-Pod, The Mathematics of Art, Sporting Chances and Origami Mathematics.
The pupils enjoyed their first Saturday morning at the University and they are looking forward to next weeks session where they will discover the Mathematics behind Google.
Ks4 pupils Zoe Brooks, Joseph Isingrini, Tristan Horton, Carrie Sparks and George Trilloe also attend the Saturday morning sessions in Glamorgan University.
Mrs Finney said “I am very pleased that the pupils are giving up their own time to discover new mathematics and I am very proud of their commitment. Well done all!”
