DSC 0624A massive congratulations goes to Liam Beckley in 7O for his hard work and commitment to learning. Liam created a fantastic descriptive piece of writing which has really impressed his teachers!
Here is a brief extract from his descriptive writing:
“The wind is screaming at me. I stop to get my breath and see the mammoth house looking down on me.”
Keep up the brilliant work Liam. You are now a published author!

Well done to Zoe, Hannah and Lowri from Year 11 who became members of the Pontypridd Town Youth Council this evening. They will be part of a team that will bring forward ideas to the Town Council regarding issues that are important to young people in our communities. The Youth Council will meet each half term with pupils from other schools and then meet with the Town Council members at their official meetings.

It was a great experience for the girls to attend a meeting in the Council Chamber and we would like to thank the Mayor Councillor Keith Bennett and Mr Gethin Williams, Clerk and Chief Executive, for inviting us along and especially for the lovely buffet afterwards.

If anyone else would like to be part of the Youth Council, please see Debbie Davies in Xtra.

There’s still some time left for our KS4 pupils to make a difference to their summer success. There are so many revision sessions on offer at present and we are constantly reminding the pupils to seize every available opportunity to get as much support and guidance as possible. Please find attached the most recent copy of all the revision sessions on offer between now and until the exams begin in May. There will be additional periods being offered during the Easter holidays and these sessions will be displayed by the end of next week.

Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Samuel-Jones (KS4 Standards’ Manager) or Mr Carter-Evans (Assistant Head) if you have any questions or concerns.

cakeTuesday saw the the grand finale of our cake decorating competition which was kindly judged by Ceri lynne Jones, Alun Thomas and Richard Barton!  The group of girls have been a pleasure to work with and have shown excellent skills in cake artistry, they have learnt how to make sugar paste flowers, use cutting tools and moulds, make marzipan animals, pipe icing, cover a cake and use stencils amongst many other things!  The girls have worked tirelessly on their show stopping cakes and the judges had a hard time choosing an overall winner.   There were 15 cakes on display varying from flower inspired wedding cakes, teddy bear picnic cakes, haunted houses and I love 1 D!

I am pleased to announce that the winner of Crafty Cakes Spring 2014 is…..

Sophie Tarr and Alice Newton of year 8 with their 2 tiered flower extravaganza of a cake!

The winners received a hand tied bouquet of flowers complete with baking setts and all girls were presented with a bunch of daffodils and a wooden spoon!
In 2nd place was Georgia Salmon and Gemma Williams (yr9)  with their woodland garden theme and 3rd place was Danielle Griffiths (yr8) with her teddy bears picnic!

Well done to all girls that took part!

NUT Strike Action
Written by Debra Davies
Wednesday, 19 March 2014 10:02

Dear Parent / Guardian,

I recently informed you that the NUT Teaching Union have called for Strike Action on Wednesday, March 26th. Information I have at the present time confirms that this will be taking place and more than half of the teaching staff at School are members of this Union. Under the terms of the strike action, no other teacher is allowed to teach or supervise pupils that would normally be taught by a teacher from the NUT. A detailed analysis of all lessons taught that day has been carried out in order to identify any classes that could be taught in line with our timetable.

Due to the number of teachers absent on that day it is not possible to deliver lessons as per the normal timetable and it will also be difficult to supervise pupils safely out of the classroom. As a result I have made the decision to close the School for all pupils in Years 7 to 11 on Wednesday, March 26th next week. School will be open for all pupils in Years 12 and 13 though lessons usually taught on that day by a member of staff in the NUT Union will not take place. I can assure you that every effort will be made to provide appropriate work, particularly for those pupils who are completing examinations in the summer.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but trust you will understand the conditions by which this decision has been made. School will be open as normal on Thursday, March 27th.

Please be aware that any strike action may be postponed or cancelled at a later date. If this happens our decision to close may be changed.

Yours faithfully

Huw Cripps

flowerCongratulations to Jodie Fuge and Danielle Griffiths of Year 8 for all their hard work in reconditioning the old memorial flower bed in the central courtyard area of the school.  They have spent two days out of their holiday battling against the elements. They have created a beautiful display of spring flowers and plants for all students and staff to enjoy.
As well as planting up the flower bed they also planted out their rapidly growing cabbages and planted two hanging baskets with spring flowers.

Any students that would be interested in joining in with these activities, the group meets on a Wednesday after school 3:05-5:05.
