Well done to all the competitors who took part in Pontypridd High School's Sports Day 2013.
Once again there were some nail biting moments when track and field events were in full swing. Previous records were broken yet again this year and a full listing will follow soon.
A big thank you to Mr Thomas and the PE Department for organising a great day. |

On Saturday 20th April 2013 Kyle Adams a pupil at Pontypridd High School joined some famous names like Gold medal winner Paralympic cyclist Mark Colbourne and ex Wales rugby international Alix Popham on the Battle 2 Brive.
Kyle would like to thank staff and pupils who sponsored his 590 mile cycle ride. He has raised a staggering £3250 for Mencap Cymru with monies still coming in.
In 1997 rugby teams Brive and Pontypridd were involved in a heated encounter during a Heineken Cup match, which become known as the infamous Battle of Brive. At the end of the gruelling charity cycle ride Kyle and the other cyclists watched the end of season match in Brive and were presented with cheques from the club and 97 club which are a group of past players.
Well done Kyle this is an outstanding achievement! |

Congratulations to Luke Jones in Year 10 who has once again won the Welsh Junior Boxing Championships. This will be his sixth consecutive win; this year competing in the U15 category. The fight was held in Cardiff and Luke had to win three fights to get to the final and win his vest. He has a busy training schedule as he also has to fit in rugby training, he plays for Cardiff Blues under 15s. Luke aspires to one day be like his idol Joe Calzaghe. We wish you every success Luke as you are obviously on the way to great achievements with your hard work and commitment. Well done!

Pontypridd High School hosted its first annual ‘Real Men Read’ event. There were ‘no girls allowed’ to this event! Boys in our school invited a ‘male role model’ to the even and it was so nice to see fathers, older brothers and bamps in attendance.
Lyn Jones, Head Coach of London Welsh RFC and former Welsh international rugby union player, gave an inspirational talk about the 7 ‘L’s that pupils need to be successful in life. It was also an opportunity for Lyn to share his experiences with reading and how he loves reading factual books.
Pupils then had a chance to participate in a sports quiz, listen to an inspirational chat from Mr Cripps about the books that he loves (factual books too), and have time to have a question and answer session with Lyn.
A massive thank you goes out to Lyn Jones, Mr Cripps and Mr Van-Baaren for sharing that evening. |
