elisOn Tuesday 26th of November the PE Department took some of their most fit, if not brave pupils to compete in the annual Glamorgan Valleys Cross Country Championships held at Newbridge playing fields, Bridgend.

The pupils braved the very cold, crisp weather and all 36 competitors represented the school so well. The distances covered ranged from Yr 7 at 2200m up to 4000m and 5000m for Yrs 11 & 12. Out of the few hundred runners, Pontypridd High achieved some particular successes with our new Yr pupils, Jasmine Simpson and Taylor Attley coming 15th and 10th respectively.

photoYear 8 Pupils Achieve 3rd Place!

Five Year 8 pupils went to Abercwmboi RFC on November 20th to take part in the All Wales Crime Prevention Quiz ran by the South Wales and Fire Service. The team members were Daniel Tollen, Caitlyn Baker, Seren Thompson, Jessica Barnes and Dylan Richards.  The pupils revised different aspects of the law such as Drug Awareness, Personal Safety, Fire Risks, Road Awareness, Health and Internet Safety. All of the pupils worked extremely hard prior to the competition to learn as many facts as possible to be able to answer all of the questions correctly in the quiz. The pupils’ hard work definitely paid off, as they came third in the Rhonda Cynon Taff Region. The five pupils were presented with certificates and they have proudly placed them in their Progress Files. Mrs Finney commented “The pupils had a fantastic day and I was extremely proud of their achievement.”
