A massive congratulations goes to Sam Richards in 7R for his hard work and commitment to learning. Sam created a fantastic newspaper article which has really impressed his teachers!
Here is a brief extract from his newspaper: “Space week is happening NOW! It has been 40 years since man first walked on the moon.”
Keep up the brilliant work Sam. You are now a published author! |

From September 2012 we will assess your child and report to you in a slightly different way. Assessment takes place almost every single lesson! However as a parent you are most interested in our formal assessments of your child and the progress they are making.
Schools are required by law to provide parents with a report and an opportunity to discuss with parents their child’s progress once a year. Below you will see our assessment and reporting schedule.
You will get a three reports of your child’s progress, one each term plus the opportunity to meet your child’s teachers in the scheduled parents evening. In the summer, years 11, 12 , & 13 will be externally examined.

On 10th October our GCSE Geographers carried out their field work at the River Ogmore. The rain held off for the day but that didn’t mean everyone stayed dry as the students enthusiastically waded through the river in order to obtain a good set of measurements for their forthcoming controlled assessment. The trip began at the source of the river in Nantymoel where pupils measured the width, depth and velocity of the river channel. They repeated this method at the second site in Blackmill and again at the lower course of the river in Ogmore-by-sea, stopping briefly for a well-earned burger on the way. The trip was very successful despite recent heavy rainfall and the students’ behaviour, enthusiasm and positivity were exemplary. Well done year 11!

Continuing their hard work into 2012 on Monday the Fair Trade Committee consisting of Bryone Wheeler, Courtney Loveridge, Bethany Howells, Abbie Randell, Ellie Mc Dougall and Ciara Richards (all year 8) presented an assembly to year 7 about the importance of their work in promoting Fair Trade and keeping our Fair Trade status as a school. The assembly saw the members dressed in banana costumes to raise awareness and to appeal for new members. This proved to be very successful as on Tuesday lunchtime 20 new members from year 7 turned up for the Fair Trade Committee. This is fantastic news as our committee will grow stronger, our events bigger and better and therefore Pontypridd High School will keep our Fair Trade flag for longer! If you would like more information on the Fair Trade committee and our work please see the notice board in reception or outside room 415.

After a great deal of hard work over the school year, Pontypridd High School has been awarded Fair Trade status and can fly the ‘Fair Trade School’ flag proudly. This would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the Fair Trade Committee whose members are: Courtney Loveridge, Bryone Wheeler, Bethany Howells, Abbie Randell, Ciara Richards and Rachel Birch all in Year 7. These girls have committed a great deal of their own time to create displays and hold a variety of events and promotions which have led to this success. They should be very proud of themselves, well done girl! I look forward to recruiting new members to the Fair Trade Committee this year to keep the flag flying! All are welcome, Tuesday lunchtimes in Room 415 with Miss Lauchlan.
