DSC 0894A big thank you to PC Geoff Cook from the British Transport Police who took the time to come in and demonstrate the use of the mobile safety unit today. Pupils from year 8 and 9 are currently working on a project about safety on the railways with the PUPIL Scheme. They were extremely interested to find out how the safety unit is used on level crossings. Pupils will continue their project with Gemma Jones from Cynon Valley Crime Prevention and CSO Dave Jones to raise awareness in school and the local community.

wheelchairOn the 6th December  six pupils from Pontypridd High School took part in the 5x60 Wheelchair Basketball competition.  The competition was held at Rhondda Fach Sports Centre.
Adam Taylor, Tara Owens, Sam Griffiths, Kyle-Rees Griffiths, Harry Langworthy  and William Mansell all stepped up to the wheelchair basketball challenge and came 3rd out of 5 schools that attended. This was a fantastic result.  In between matches they also involved themselves in football games with other schools. To which all pupils found tremendously enjoyable and fun. Within the competition they all worked extremely hard and won 5 games out of 10. This was a new experience for most of the pupils and they took on the challenge to which the excelled and showed commitment and great team work.  Each individual showed their competitiveness and compassion for a sporting challenge and their efforts massively paid off.
A special mention for Kyle-Rees Griffiths who got incredibly involved and took on the role of team captain for the day.
A fantastic day was held by all and all students are keen to be involved in the next competition being held.

Friday, 29 November 2013 13:09

Year 6 pupCilfynydd y6 science4ils from Cilfynydd Primary School join the Science department at Pontypridd High School every Friday. The pupils are currently studying the ‘Forces’ topic in their primary school so our Science department are bringing the topic to life by teaching year 6 how fireworks are made. Year 6 pupils used the Bunsen burners for the first time with Miss King to test various chemical reactions to the flame in order to understand how fireworks are given their colours. The pupils worked very responsibly and made some very good observations. They will be visiting us again this Friday to take part in a chemistry lesson with Mrs Williams, check the Pontypridd High website for further updates on the exciting activities that year 6 pupils get up to each Friday in the science department!
