DSC 0143Pontypridd High School welcomed a very special visitor yesterday. Wales' First Minister Carwyn Jones  came along to the school to talk to the members of Pontypridd High School construction team who travelled to Mbale, Uganda in July 2012, to use and share their skills to build a dormitory to house the school children of Bubuto. Mr Jones was presented with an official plaque which he will take with him when he visits the hostel in January 2014.
During his visit to the school the First Minister was interviewed by the school's Roving Reporters who had lots of questions to ask him about his forthcoming visit to Uganda and how the links between Pontypridd and Uganda could be further developed through PONT.

Yesterday's OAP party marked our twenty ninth year of celebrations with the senior members of our community. Guests arrived to a huge welcome from the pupils and staff at Pontypridd High School and were treated to a scrumptious Christmas dinner with all the trimmings! Entertainment was provided by our super talented pupils including instrumental, dance and singing performances, bingo and a raffle.
A special thank you to Creigiau Travel for providing two coaches to safely transport our guests in comfort and at no cost.
Well done to the Sixth Form for organising this much loved and appreciated event.
E3+ Celeb Style Fashion Clothes Show Trip

On Saturday 10 lucky young people went on a trip to the clothes show live in Birmingham with E3+.  The trip was attended by young people who signed up to the celeb style fashion course which is starting in January 2014.  The students attended the fashion show to give them an insight into the world of fashion and to gather research and inspiration for their own designs.  The group had a fantastic time at the event doing lots of shopping, watched “Kingsland Road” and a bizarre swimwear dance show! The group also enjoyed getting to know their tutor Caroline Thomas who works as a freelance Costume designer and tutor for Coleg y Cymoedd.  The group were set tasks all day and captured their favourite designs on their mobile phones ready to use in their workshops.  There are just 4 places left on the Celeb Style Fashion Course which will be starting on a Friday next term.  Contact the e3+ office for more details.

DSC 0944I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all teaching and non-teaching staff that supported the OAP event.  There are many people involved and I cannot possibly name them all but can I please give special thanks to the following people;

Shaaron Long – Organising all the invites and transportation (amongst other duties) Anna Crozier – For helping run the event. Cath Bengough and the Canteen ladies – For putting on an incredible spread. Sara Phillips – For donating a beautiful Gingerbread House. Kiera Boyce– For making the hamper and gingerbread house look incredible. Lynne Emmanuel and Debbie Panes – Shopping for all the raffle prizes and gifts

The pensioners commented that this year in particular the event was a huge success.  Pupils were welcoming, mature, friendly and were so involved they even joined in with the Christmas quiz.  The comments were exceptional and we have already received a number of calls thanking us for an amazing time.  Congratulations to all the pupils involved.

bookThe students of Pontypridd High School have received an incredibly generous gift today from our Paton of Reading Rachel Ward. Rachel has sent us three of her favourite teen reads which are to be donated to our school library. We are eager to read all of the text and feedback our comments to Rachel in the New Year. Thank you Rachel from all of us at Pontypridd High School.
