All pupils who achieved over 300 Merits during the academic year 2011/2012 received their final “Reward” in December when they attended one of the two Trips to the Rhondda Bowl in Tonyrefail. 47 pupils in Year 8 and 41 pupils in Year 9 qualified for the trip on 13th December while 64 pupils in Year 10 qualified for the trip on 17th December. The “Reward” consisted of two free games of 10 pin bowling and free transport – and a day off School lessons!! The first game was the “Tournament Game” which saw the highest scoring boy, girl and team win vouchers for free games at the Rhondda Bowl. Then the lights dipped and the music and disco lights started for the second “Fun Game”. Pupils were also able to take advantage of the special discounted meals offered by the Rhondda Bowl kitchen. All pupils on both trips were a credit to Pontypridd High School and themselves and hopefully they enjoyed their “Reward” for achieving so many Merits last year. I look forward to even more pupils attending the Rewards Trip next year!!

Students at Pontypridd High School are currently gathering information in order to make a film about the mining disaster of 1894 which happened here on the school site, formerly the Albion Colliery.
We are looking to find people in and around the Cilfynydd community who have ancestors that were involved in the disaster and who may have some information or stories to tell that have been passed down through the generations. If you are able to help and have any information that you think would contribute to the film please contact the school, we would love to hear from you. |

Yesterday saw the grand opening of the “Rhys Cycle Project” at Pontypridd High School by Councillor Andrew Morgan, Cabinet Member for Transport, Customer Care and Emergency Planning. Thank you to all the guests who came along to support the event including George Jones, Group Director of RCT Environmental Services, Chris Bradshaw, Director of Education and Nigel Wheeler Manager of RCT Environmental Streetcare.
The Rhys Cycle Project is a fantastic project which brings back to life discarded bikes in RCT. The team also provide National Cycle Training (levels 1, 2 and 3,) give guided trail rides along the Taff Trail, archery and team building activities.
Students at Pontypridd High School also get the chance to take part in bike mechanics training. Well done to Daniel and Kieran who have been working extremely hard on the bikes this term and to Daniel who created a PowerPoint presentation plotting the life of the project so far which was shown at the opening event and will now be shown on the RCT website.

A huge congratulations to Taylor Davies from Year 7 who ran away with first place in the Nos Galan event in Mountain Ash on New Year's Eve.
Taylor competed against 114 other children in the Juniors 10 - 11 Race and made his family very proud when he was presented with his trophy by the Mayor. |

On November 6th pupils in Year 12 and 13 studying A Level Mathematics took part in the annual United Kingdom Senior Maths Challenge. This challenge involves answering 25 multiple choice mathematics questions in 90 minutes. The top 60% of students receive either a gold, silver or bronze certificate. Pontypridd High students performed very well and 4 pupils were awarded a bronze certificate. These pupils were Charlotte Rose, Ryan Webber, Emily Pardoe and Connor Boots. Our pupils produced excellent results and we would like to congratulate them all on their efforts.
