PHS Students deliver the verdict

courtFour Pontypridd High students had the privilege to visit Bridgend Law Courts; they were given a full tour and even allowed to sit in on some cases. We left early Thursday morning and arrived at about half past ten, despite Miss Stickler’s misleading satnav. When we arrived we had to go through a series of security checks, and were led into a youth court where we were shown the ropes by magistrate and justice of the peace Barry Stevens. We were shown some simulated cases and asked to deliver our own verdicts, this was essential in understanding the process and the procedures involved with a court case. After sitting in on some quite harrowing cases the pupils realised how hard it is to deliver a fair and appropriate sentence. After a short period of being locked in a cell the pupils concluded that a life of crime truly does not pay.

Canadian Tour Report

Thursday, 03 April 2014 11:05

canadaOn the weekend of the 14th march, students from Pontypridd high school hosted the Hugh McRoberts Canadian touring side. They were over here for three days before travelling to Ireland on the Tuesday. The students provided entertainment all over the weekend building up to the game on the Monday. The game itself was a very exciting game of rugby with a lot of pressure on the Pontypridd boys knowing that the school had never lost to the Canadians before. Both teams saw it as such a great honour to be playing on the Cardiff blues grounds.

University life in Oxford
Written by Zoe - Roving Reporter

oxfordDedicated lecturers, state of the art facilities, and plenty of time to study. That’s what we, a group of year 11 students, found out could be in store for us, when we went on an overnight trip to Oxford, to get a feel for university life. We all soon learnt our way around the city after being sent on a “treasure hunt” to find famous buildings such as the Bodleian Library and Oxford Museum of Science. Shortly after, we were lucky enough to be taken around the prestigious “Christ Church College” by a current student who answered all our questions about the subjects, accommodation, and our most pressing issue, the food. We also learnt about the history of Oxford, from the middle of the Isis on a boat, as we were driven up and down the stretch of the Thames which runs through Oxford, where future Olympians practice for the annual Oxford vs. Cambridge boat race. To finally get a feel for the culture, we visited Oxford’s finest Frankie and Benny’s and Bowlplex. Everyone had a brilliant time and it opened our eyes to future possibilities to look forward to.

georgiaWell done and congratulations to Georgia Davies from 10P who competed at the ICC Cheer and Dance National Championships on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th March in Nottingham.

She competed with her 2 dance teams from RSD Action in the Junior Jazz section and the Junior Pom Section. They gave amazing performances both days with a fantastic display of talent, dance skills and flexibility.

The results were brilliant!. There was some really tough competition but Georgia and her team achieved first place and National Champion 2014 titles for both dances. They also won an amazing Grand Champion title for the Jazz routine.

USA 2014

lincolnPlease enjoy reading the reports and itinerary that our lucky pupils at Pontypridd High School have written about their recent incredible trip to the USA:

Tristan (year 11)
I’ve really enjoyed visiting the USA for the first time, and all the teachers, especially Mrs Cooper, have provided excellent travel and have done an amazing job in making sure we saw all the landmarks, like the statue of liberty, empire state building and ground zero. My favourite part of the trip was Washington DC and visiting the secret service. None of this would have been possible without all the teachers and I am very grateful. I will always remember it and the memories will stay with me forever.
Megan (Year 11)
My trip to America was an amazing experience. I loved New York with the stereotypical bustle of a big city, but I also loved Washington, being calm and relaxing. My personal favourite part of the trip was meeting Holocaust survivors. I could not get my head around the horrific incidents these people standing in front of me experienced. Yet all that shone through was deep spirituality and humanity. I still cannot believe how forgiving these people were; it really made me think about the type of person I want to be.
Mrs Cooper was amazing through all the stress she still managed to stay calm, she is funny and friendly but what is always shown is her kindness. Thank you for a truly inspirational trip Mrs Cooper.
