Year 10 RCT Cup Final

This competition started back in the cold, dark nights of January, playing schools across the county. This year the boys did extremely well playing a lovely style of football with great team spirt. They have stayed together and after beating teams like Llanharri and Tonypandy, reached the final of the cup where we played local rivals Hawthorn.

Fitting the game in around the boys GCSE exams, the final was eventually played at Hawthorn on Tuesday 14th June. Throughout the week there had been a buzz around the school and with Wales winning their first game at the Euros gave the whole team inspiration. The team captained by Lucas Welch started strongly and Jordan Young quickly latched onto a through ball, which he dispatched into the back of the net. This was followed quickly by a Ioan Evans long distance strike and at half time Pontypridd were 2 – 0 up. Hawthorn started the second half quickly and soon brought the score back to 2 -2, all the momentum was with Hawthorn who capitalised and quickly lead 4 – 2. Pontypridd showed their fight and after Ioan Evans’s free kick was saved by the goal keeper, Jordan Young “the fox in the box” picked up the rebound and got one back. We just needed one more goal to take the game to extra time, unfortunately pushing forward in search of this goal meant we left ourselves light at the back which Hawthorn spotted and pounced upon score two more goals before the final whistle. The result was 6 – 3 to Hawthorn, the boys played extremely well, and despite the slippery surface never gave up. After the game, the Hawthorn teacher commented on the attitude and commitment that our boys showed and how they are a credit to our school. This was the last fixture for this year, however we will be back stronger next year looking to go one better.

The boys involved were: Jake Morgan, Adam Lindsey, Morgan Llewelyn, Declan Davies, Taylor Davies, Kian Cross, Ioan Evans, Cael Griffiths, Evan Lloyd, Lucus Welch, Jordan Young, Callum Davies and Morgan Davies.
