The skills room is affectionately known as 'The Clubhouse'. The pupils that attend this room, named it. The skills room is where we conduct our literacy and numeracy interventions.
The room is bright, colourful and attractive which makes for a fantastic learning environment for our pupils. We also feel the room helps pupils with the overall transition from primary school. We build strong relationships with our pupils and ensure or lessons are fun and engaging which we feel is important to help pupils succeed.
What will you be studying?
A successful literacy programme must incorporate all of the three elements of being literate which are: reading, writing and oracy. In the ‘Clubhouse’ our intervention is based on pupils developing these strategies in a balanced way.
Our innovative numeracy programme incorporates elements of number, measure and data handling - although focuses on improving number skills. Pupils carry out a range of activities and tasks to develop these three elements.
Every week the Clubhouse teachers run a homework club afterschool on a Monday and Wednesday from 3:05-5:05pm. This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to use the school's resources in order to make their work a success. Any problems and we are here to help. The homework club is available to all year groups from 7 to 13.
